Supply and Demand

Our workforce plays a crucial role in delivering health, disability and aged care services to both individuals and communities. We want to ensure our workforce is supported and maintained to meet the growing healthcare needs of a steadily increasing and ageing population.

To assist, the department is developing complex supply and demand models to identify workforce trends including oversupply and shortages across specific professions and geographical areas.

By understanding the size, composition and distribution of our workforce, we can ensure we have the right number of health professionals to meet future needs.

To date, we have released the following supply and demand models:

  • Nurses
  • General practitioners
  • Psychiatrists
  • Psychologists
  • Dental practitioners
  • Midwives
  • Obstetricians and Gynaecologists

Modelling for additional selected professions will follow over the next 6 months.
