Obstetrics and Gynaecology Supply and Demand Study

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) Supply and Demand Study is a health workforce model that projects the supply and demand of Australia's O&G specialists from 2025 to 2048. The modelling includes O&G specialists who are working clinical hours and not currently trainees. O&G trainees are modelled as part of the training pipeline analysis.

General Practitioner (GP) obstetricians are not within the scope of this model due to data limitations. However, they were included as part of the Department's 2024 GP Supply and Demand Study.

Historical trends and the current profile of the O&G workforce can be accessed through the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Supply Profile Dashboard. This dashboard draws on data from the Australia's Future Health Workforce (AFHW) dataset, which is created from the National Health Workforce Datasets (NHWDS) for workforce modelling and planning.

The model will be updated every two years with the latest available data from all relevant data sources.
